Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information the Chub app ("Chub", "we", "us") handles, why, and the choices you have. Chub has no accounts, shows no ads and doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites.

1. Information saved on your device

Chub keeps the following only on your iPhone, in the app's own storage:

• your chats, including messages you edit;
• your profile: display name, handle, bio, persona, pronouns and avatar;
• characters and drafts you create, including any photo you choose for them (the app only receives the photo you pick, not the rest of your library);
• your settings, your onboarding answers about the stories you like, your likes, and the characters and creators you hid or blocked.

We can't see or recover this information. It may be included in your iCloud or computer backups, depending on your device settings. Deleting the app deletes it.

2. Information sent to write AI replies

Replies and Create with AI are written by an AI model, not by a person. When you send a message, ask for a new reply or use Create with AI, the app sends our server:

• the recent conversation;
• the character's card: its name, description, personality, scenario and tags;
• your display name and persona, so the character can address you;
• for Create with AI, the idea you typed;
• whether mature replies are turned on.

Our server checks the request and passes it to OpenRouter, which sends it to an AI model provider to write the reply, then streams the reply back to you. Our server doesn't store your messages. We set OpenRouter to route requests only to providers that don't store prompts or use them to train models. Photos are never sent.

You can turn AI replies off in Profile ▸ Privacy & safety. While they're off, the app asks you before it sends anything.

3. Install ID and technical data

The first time the app connects, it creates a random install ID and keeps it in your device's keychain. It isn't linked to your name, your Apple ID or your advertising identifier. Our server uses it, together with your IP address, only to start a session that expires after 7 days and to limit how many requests one device can send, which prevents abuse. Those limits are counted over a minute and then discarded.

For each request, our server logs only technical details: the type of request, the result, how long it took and any error. It never logs messages, characters, install IDs or IP addresses, and the logs are deleted automatically after a few days. Like any web host, Cloudflare, which runs our server, processes your IP address to deliver the connection.

The app doesn't use your advertising identifier, location, contacts, camera or microphone.

4. Subscriptions

Apple processes all payments, and we never receive your payment details. Superwall, which provides our subscription screens and checks your subscription status, receives:

• your purchase history and subscription status;
• a random ID it creates for your install;
• basic device and app details, such as device model, iOS version, language, region and app version;
• how you use its screens, for example when an offer is shown, closed or bought.

We use this to show offers, unlock Pro and learn which offers work. None of it is linked to your identity.

5. Reports and emails

When you report a character or a reply, the app opens an email to us with the character's name, your reason and, for a reply, its text. You can edit it before sending. We receive what you send, including your email address, and use it only to review the report and answer you.

6. Who receives information

Only the service providers that run the app, for the purposes above:

• Cloudflare, which hosts our server;
• OpenRouter and the AI model provider it routes to, which write replies;
• Superwall, for subscription screens and status;
• Apple, for the App Store and payments, and for crash reports and usage statistics if you choose to share them with app developers in your device settings.

We don't sell or rent your information, share it for advertising, or use it to track you. We may disclose information when the law requires it.

7. How long we keep information

• On your device: until you delete it, or the app.
• Messages sent for AI replies: not kept by our server, only processed to write the reply.
• Request logs: a few days.
• Subscription records at Superwall and Apple: as long as your subscription needs them, and as their policies describe.
• Emails: as long as we need them to handle your request.

8. Your choices and rights

• Turn AI replies off in Profile ▸ Privacy & safety.
• Delete a chat by swiping left on it in Chats.
• Delete everything Chub saved on your device by deleting the app.
• Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple account settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or move your information, or to object to how it's used. Because Chub has no accounts and our server keeps no chats, we hold almost nothing that identifies you. For any request, including deleting what Superwall holds for your install, email us.

9. Age requirement

Chub is for adults 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.

10. Security

Connections to our server are encrypted, sessions are signed and expire, and our server keeps no chat content. No system is perfectly secure, so we keep what we receive to a minimum.

11. International processing

Our providers may process information in countries other than yours, including the United States, under their own safeguards.

12. Changes

If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top.
